When you are in a tourist area, there is always the risk to find bad or expensive restaurants. Today we want to debunk this myth, introducing you a very delicious restaurant in Barceloneta: Perikete Tapas.
This restaurant will surprise you from the beginning. It is a small local with a cool design, decorated with wooden barrels and so many hams (the typical spanish jamones) hanging from the ceiling.
The name comes from a wordplay. In spanish, “Periquete” is a colloquial expression that means “in a moment”. In fact, one of the highlights of this restaurant is undoubtedly the speed in serving their clients.
In this article we want to share with you our experience in Perikete, so that you can enjoy the best dishes of one of our favourite restaurants in Barcelona.
1. Our experience in Perikete
Perikete is just next the Barceloneta metro station. In this area you can find a lot of restaurants, usually a bit expensive. This is not the case.
We ended up eating in Perikete attracted from the hanging hams and from the friendly atmosphere that can be perceived.
The waiters welcomed us with a smile and gave us a paper with the menu. For every dish there is a little square, where you have to insert the quantity that you desire.
They have a huge amount of spanish wines. They are all exposed in the walls of the local and you can try them during your meal or take them away.
The menu is composed by tapas and dishes to share from different parts of Spain: Catalunya, Andalucia, Basque Country, etc. They don’t have a specific main dish, but a great variety that can satisfy every palate.
We decided to try some Croquetas de Jamón (homemade ham croquettes), the typical Tortilla de Patatas (potato and onion omelette), the Bomba de la Barceloneta (Fried potato and meat spicy ball), the Pulpo a la Gallega (octopus in the Galician style) and Calamares a la Andaluza (squids in the Andalusian style).
All accompanied by a glass of very good Spanish wine that they suggested us.
The result was surprising. The food was delicious, the presentation of the dishes was really cured, the portions were generous and, in addition to that, they served us really fast.
We were really surprised about it because, for a good price, we ended up really satisfied for the food and the experience.
2. The Highlights
Unfortunately we didn’t try all the dishes of their menu but, among those that we ate, our favourite one was the octopus.
The highlights of Perikete are undoubtedly:
- Location. It is located just a few steps from the Barceloneta metro station, close to the Ciutadella Park or Born neighborhood.
- Variety of food. You can try a lot of typical dishes from all the Spain.
- Good price. Perikete is part of a group of restaurants, Grupo Reini, which allows them to access to quality food for a low price. You can be very satisfied spending only 15-20 euros.
- Assortment of wines. They have an extensive wine list with more than 250 references at store prices.
